Property & Development NSW Maitland Workplace Hub

516 High Street,
Maitland, NSW, Australia

Bringing benefits to regional economies

Over a two-stage process, Hunter Mason worked with Property and Development NSW to redesign and construct an existing workplace at 516 High Street, Maitland. The redesigned space needed to meet the distinct requirements and unique identities of the Department of Regional NSW (DRNSW), the Department of Customer Service (DCS), and the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI).

The vibrant new 5,570 square meter space is spread over two expansive floors and accommodates 650 regional workers in a variety of agile working environments and shared collaboration spaces. The first stage of the project saw the design and construction of the open-plan workspaces, large meeting rooms, multifunction rooms with flexible configurations, focus rooms and breakout areas, as well as a town hall for employees to come together.

Necessary structural enhancements, including redesigned steelworks and strengthening of the level 2 slab soffit, were conducted in a live environment. The Main Comms Room (MCR) and refreshed lobby areas were included to align with the modernised workplace.
The entire project involved 12 weeks of demolition and 32 weeks of construction, adhering to the GC21 contract. Stage 1 was successfully completed in November 2023, with Stage 2 completed in March 2024.

The efficient program contributed to the seamless relocation of the relocated government agencies to their new dynamic workspace. The ongoing benefits to the regional economy were felt from as early as the construction phase, when 40 local jobs were created.
Supporting the NSW Government’s environmental goals, the building is on track for a 5-star NABERS energy rating and a 4-star NABERS water rating.
