Atlassian Connection Hub Melbourne

96 Flinders Lane,
Melbourne, VIC, Australia

An unconventional space for collaboration powerhouse

Establishing the inaugural Melbourne location for global software company Atlassian was bound to invert traditional models of design and construction. Eschewing the traditional office concept, the company responded to employees’ desire for more interaction by creating a “connection hub” for conversations and collaboration.

Atlassian’s 500+ Melbourne-based employees were largely hired before it had a physical space in the city and were operating remotely. Hunter Mason was tasked with executing a variable style design to help the company gauge the specific benefits of the 760-square metre office space on employee productivity and job satisfaction.

This approach necessitated numerous alterations throughout both the design and construction phases as the project team collaborated on spaces for complex strategy work, team bonding sessions and other in-person requirements. We dedicated our administrative staff exclusively to this project – an unconventional step that mitigated challenges posed by a tight timeline of just three months, and a typically rapid delivery pace.

Ultimately, we delivered a budget-conscious fitout that managed to uphold quality and fulfill the envisioned experience for Atlassian’s people in Melbourne.
