Abacus 77 Castlereagh St End of Trip

Level 17, 77 Castlereagh Street,
Sydney, NSW, Australia

Getting the most out of
every space.

Successful buildings are those that do more, and the plant room for Australian investment company Abacus Group is a case in point. The previously congested, functional space was refurbished to integrate a cutting-edge end of trip facility (EOT) to offer improved health and wellbeing services to Abacus’ people.

Hunter Mason was awarded the Level 17 EOT refurbishment. Another collaboration with Gray Puksand and Aston Consulting. The 30-week program involved a complex schedule of relocating critical base building services infrastructure, including chillers, boilers, and electrical boards.

The planning and execution of these infrastructure relocations took place prior to construction and was crucial to opening up sufficient space for the EOT facility. Our team’s innovative approach involved designing a steel portal frame of over 200 pieces that would serve as the structural backbone for the EOT space while also acting as a fire-rated compartment. This created a highly performant acoustic environment where ambient noise from adjacent plant room machinery would be mitigated – and was undertaken with only a single lift available for construction access.

With the service relocations and preparatory works complete, the comprehensive EOT facility took shape, featuring bathrooms, showers, bicycle parking, refreshment stations, and laundry facilities. It’s a world-class facility that shows what can be achieved with creative concepts and advanced solutions.
